As someone who used to live not too far from Lowell, can confirm that driving there is really scary! 😱 and I’m from Baltimore, so that’s saying something. 😂 I had no idea Kerouac was buried there. And hell yeah to long solo road trips!! ♥️♥️

Hah, I'm so glad you said that! It makes me feel a lot less wimpy! Damn Masshole drivers. Anyway, yeah I didn't know it until last year! Happy I found out when I did, otherwise I'd have missed the opportunity. Time to start planning my next trip I suppose. <3

Oh my goodness, a New England beach in winter is my happy place. I'm not really a summer beach person because I burn so much, but there's something about the beach on a windy cold day that just makes me feel so small.

I love that you went on a little literary side-quest. I've never been to his grave, either, and I've been so close to/passed through Lowell many times. I did go to Emily Dickinson's grave once, and I also never think to bring anything. Poor woman probably is rolling in her grave that people can even find it--introvert that she was.

Thanks for sharing the experience. I need to do more one-woman road trips. And visit old friends up in New England more. Thanks for the reminder.

Yeeesssss, you and me both! I'm so glad you know what I'm saying. It's king of otherworldly.

As far as the side-quest, would definitely recommend! 0/10 would recommend the "bathroom" at the convenience store across the street so plan that accordingly. haha! I think Emily might have to be the detour next time, which I hope is sooner rather than later.

To one woman trips!!

I dated a woman who lived in Nashua for a few years, post-divorce/pre-second marriage, so I’m very familiar with the solo New England road trip. LI-through Connecticut-into Mass-then east and finally North into NH. I was a late night driver. Get in the car around 10 and hit Nashua around 2am. I also lived a few years in Boston, during my full-on aspiring rock’n roller period, during the mid-80’s. It’s a lovely area. Brimming with history. Beantown was—and still is—a very happening city. Sadly, I never made it much into the north eastern part of MA, even though I had friends who lived in Beverly, just north of Salem (which is another place I must visit in this lifetime). My wife did a lot of solo jaunting before she settled down (such as she has!) with me. And when we road tripped we’d often just hang a left here or there and see where we wound up. Lowell. Kerouac. Serge’s dad. Providence? Coincidence? Life. Because, as someone once noted, “Sometimes life is funny as shit.”

Safe travels!

Man, yeah, I would prefer late night driving I think if I could manage staying awake. I used to be totally nocturnal but things have shifted as kids came along and I'm getting older. Boston is definitely my favorite city, I spent a lot of time there. So excited to see you mention Beverly because THAT is where I'm talking about! I went to school at Montserrat College of Art. Such memories. I want to travel there with Serge one of these days soon. Salem is just the icing on the cake. Always appreciate hearing from you, it's incredible encouraging.

And I neglected to mention how cool that playlist is! Smooth and jazzy and applicable, I would think, to couple activities beyond meal prep. 😃
